As the Director of Construction for Comcast’s Beltway Region, Alex Whitney leads a dynamic team in executing commercial construction projects, creating pathways for Comcast Business customers. Managing a multi-million dollar capital budget, he has driven initiatives resulting in over tens of thousands of commercial passings annually. His team also supports regional planning and design, as well as the regional fiber team responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and restoring services to our extensive fiber network. Under Alex’s leadership, efficiencies have been implemented, resulting in a 14% reduction in construction intervals, delivering services and generating revenue two weeks sooner. Additionally, there has been a 10% reduction in fiber restoration intervals, restoring services 35 minutes faster. These achievements stem from a highly engaged team, which has demonstrated unprecedented engagement results with two consecutive years of 95%+ favorability.

 

Alex’s journey at Comcast began in 2004 as an installation and service technician. Since then, he has taken on progressively challenging roles in Technical Operations, Comcast Business, and Engineering throughout the Beltway Region. In a prior role, he led a team of over 300 leaders and frontline technicians, achieving a remarkable 24% increase in team engagement and favorability. His strategic initiatives also led to a 24% reduction in repeat truck rolls, translating to savings exceeding $1.1 million.

 

A United States Marine Corps veteran, Alex served as a Combat Motion Media Photographer from 1999 to 2003, attaining the rank of Corporal and participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College and has further expanded his expertise with certificates in Leadership, Communication, and Human Resources from Anne Arundel Community College. Most recently, he attended the Society of Cable and Telecommunications Engineers’ esteemed Management Development Program at the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business.

 

Alex is deeply committed to the veteran community. He serves as the secretary of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training, contributing to the organization’s mission of providing comprehensive services to homeless veterans and those in need. Additionally, Alex is a life member of the Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and The American Legion, where he previously held the role of Department of Maryland Vice Commander and fulfills various responsibilities within his local post.

 

Residing in Westminster, Maryland, with his wife Danielle and their two children, Ashlynn and AJ, Alex enjoys building family memories through shared experiences, whether attending sporting events, camping, or embracing the outdoors.
